Bouncy Ball!

Myra found this bouncy ball outside of Baskin Robbins the other day and gave it to me. I brought it home and set it on the table. And now it's gone. Some little kid's livelihood has been stolen (but hopefully not ingested) by our cats.

It's been awhile since I posted about a found object, because the found object phenomenon is not always active in my life. But I liked this one a lot - it makes me wonder who it belonged to. (I'm thinking it probably belonged to a little kid, probably a boy, but not necessarily - I loved bouncy balls when I was a kid. I even collected them!) And now that it's been lost, it's just waiting to be found all over again. We probably won't be able to find it until we move again. Our cats are major hoarders.

Found: Ticket to the Tower of London!

The other day I received my latest book courtesy of PaperBackSwap, and delicately placed between 2 pages was a ticket to the Tower of London (and the other piece of paper seems to be a receipt). What an awesome find for someone like myself who is travel-challenged. (I have been in school [and therefore poor] for so long that I have not done as much traveling as I want to.)

As stated before, I really love finding things that once belonged to someone else and were, for some reason, misplaced or forgotten. In the case of this ticket, I wonder what the owner thought upon seeing the Tower of London. What was the weather like? Was the book I got in the mail the book he/she was reading at the time he/she travelled to England? This lost/found ticket holds the key to at least one piece of information about its owner, and now that I have it, I feel a little more connected with this unknown person, strange as that may sound. I almost feel like it's a little sacreligious for me to have this ticket, almost like I should mail it back to the person.

But, nah. I think I'll keep it and use it as a bookmark. It's way too pretty to just toss. And I have a hard time getting rid of this piece of someone else's history, no matter how small and insignificant it may ultimately be.

On a whole other note, the weather is absolutely perfect today. Just the right amount of coolness in the air. Perhaps that's why I'm overly philosophical.

Found Object

This morning, I went to fill up my ugly mug with some hot water to make some hot tea, and I came back to my desk and found this little guy. Excuse the blurry picture, but apparently I'm not that great of a cell phone camera photographer. He's cute, eh? Apparently one of my co-workers found him in a box and left him on my desk for me. He reminds me of some Christmas ornaments I had and treasured as a child.

I really love the found object phenomenon. I have often enjoyed speculating on the travels of the object, wondering who had it before I found it and how it ended up in my hands. I found quite a few things while waiting tables. One thing that I remember the best was a tiger-eye stone. I'm not sure where it is now.

Anyway, Jessica (the co-worker who gave him to me) and I named him Max. Max is a very nice Tuesday morning present, as I'm feeling a bit under the weather today. Once again, I really like how people can affect my life in a positive way without realizing it. It's not the grand gestures that matter, but the small ones.
